After a short beak Jolly J’s, a coffee and play session for parents/carers with pre-school children and babies is back. Jolly J’s takes place in church on Monday mornings between 10 am and 11 am each week. Advice from NCT representatives is also available at each session.

Southam Town Council and St James Parish Church
The Town Churchyard at St James Church
Most residents of Southam will, by now, be aware that the Town Churchyard at St James is rapidly running out of space for new burial plots and there are currently only four remaining. However, we wish to make it clear, that second burials in existing family graves can continue where there is space available and cremated ashes can also be placed in family graves as well as the reserved cremation area.
Stratford District Council was formally requested by St James Parochial Church Council to become a burial authority in May 2009 and to provide a municipal cemetery at Southam. This request was finally declined at the end of 2012. The situation so far as Southam Town Council is concerned is that it is not a burial authority, and to become one would incur considerable expense.
Coventry Diocese has been consulted but, although they will give what help they can, they will not develop a new burial ground.
Southam Town Council will discuss the matter at their meeting on 28th February 2013 in order to decide if it wishes to continue to try to find a solution to the matter. If it is resolved to take the matter forward the next step would probably be to hold a meeting at which the public could express their views.

Congratulations to Justin Welby on his appointment as Archbishop of Canterbury. Justin, who was rector of St James’ Church from 1995 to 2002, is well remembered and loved by the local community and we pray for him and his family as they take on this new role in their lives.
We are holding our Christmas Fayre in church on Saturday 1 December between 12.00noon and 3.00pm there will be a variety of stalls including Handicrafts, Bottles, Sweets, Books, Bric-a-brac, Cakes, Refreshments and our Grand Christmas Raffle. If you can supply any items for the stalls please leave them at the Church Office or at the back of church over the coming weeks. Do come along and join in the fun on the day and buy a few of your Christmas presents.

St James Church Memorial & Thanksgiving Service Sunday 4th November 2012 at 6.30pm
At this service there will be an opportunity to remember and give thanks for the lives of people who were important to you, whether they died recently or long ago. During the service, for anyone who chooses, the name/s of those you are remembering can be read out.
