Southam St James CoE Academy
St James Church enjoys a close relationship with Southam St James CoE Academy, which is the local Church of England Primary School. According to Schoolsnet, St James Academy ‘aims to create a welcoming and caring Christian learning environment in which it actively encourages each child to achieve his/her own unique potential.’
Southam St. James Church of England Academy is situated in Tollgate Road. Although the school has undergone some challenges in recent years we are delighted that stability has not only returned under the strong leadership of the staff, but children’s performance has noticeably improved in many areas.
One of our responsibilities as members of St. James Church is to pray for the children, staff and parents of the Academy. As the school has a Church foundation we are also responsible for providing a number of its governing body.
Because the school is a Church school, it is bound to ‘preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the Church at parish and diocesan level’. As a Christian school it aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils. Especially as there is remarkable pressure about nowadays to sideline the Christian faith, please do pray for the school – and indeed why not come along and visit the school or ask if there is anything you can do to contribute to its life?
For further information please visit the school’s website.
Governors
Governors, along with the headteacher and senior school team, form the leadership team of the school. They have a crucial role in ensuring the school is successful in meeting the needs of all its pupils and achieving high standards. The Governing body should be strong and well-led, supportive of the school, its teachers and its mission making an important contribution to the school’s wellbeing and effectiveness.
St James Church nominates a number of foundation governors who, in addition to the above, have a specific care for the school’s Christian character.
Open the Book
Open the Book is a three year rolling programme of themed and dramatised stories from the Bible which the children love, as the stories are interactive, engaging and fun.
The St James Church Open the Book team and Rev. Vikki regularly take assemblies at St James CoE Academy. St James CoE Academy and Southam Primary School also visit the church for services and CrossTeach experiences.
