Prayer is the lifeblood of any church
In St James the South Porch has been converted into a prayer room. Just outside the prayer room we have a prayer tree for anyone to add prayers. Blossom is now available to thank God for answered prayers; you might like to replace a prayer leaf with blossom, or add blossom for a personal prayer that has been answered. Booklets are available and you are invited to light a candle when using the prayer room. A list of those requiring prayer is also kept and included in our services.
A confidential prayer chain also operates in the parish.
Please contact us if there is someone or something you would like us to pray for.
Praying for our Community
A Prayer of Blessing for Southam and Surrounding Villages
Heavenly Father, we thank you that you have given to us power and authority to bless the people of Southam and district in the name of Jesus.
“We bless each person in Southam and the surrounding villages in Jesus’ name. We bless our local businesses that each one will have a plentiful flow of orders. We bless the soil of our land that it might bring forth good crops.
We bless our own streets that they may be safe places to walk. We bless our work places that they may be happy and productive. We bless the Police, Firemen, Doctors, Nurses and those in caring professions. We bless those who devote their time to the care of others in the home or in a serving capacity.
We bless everyone with good health that they may be strong and well. In Jesus’ name we pray against any sickness or disease that seeks to invade the area. For those who are sick at the present time we say bless you in Jesus’ name with a speedy recovery. We pray for healing and wholeness over our area.
We bless our finances that we may have enough for all our needs, that plenty will replace poverty. We bless marriages, we bless families and friends and we pray that within each household there may be peace, love and understanding.
We bless our schools and our college that they may be secure, safe places for teachers and pupils alike. We bless the children’s capacity to learn and develop relationships and we bless their simple trust in Jesus that their trust may grow and become enriched.
We pray for our spiritual leaders and for those in government. We pray that they will lead and govern wisely; creating a sense of stability, yet encouraging and enabling new ideas and change that will bring good to the community.
We speak to the church and we say we bless you in the Name of the Lord that the Holy Spirit and the Word of God may flow out from you in power. We bless all who live and work here, that the overspill of the blessings of the presence of the Kingdom of God may fall upon you.” Amen.
Prayer Changes Things We, as a Church, feel challenged to pray for our community in a more structured way.
What Should We Pray? God’s desire is always to bless people. So we can pray for God’s blessing on the people of Southam street by street.

Kingdom Come
One of the great joys of being a Christian is that we are automatically caught up into Christ’s body the church. In our individualistic culture the gospel beautifully brings us into relationship with others. One of the joys of the Hope Mission is working with and getting to know other Christians across the Deanery.
Kingdom Come is an opportunity to gather together to pray for our Deanery, for our congregations, leaders and communities as we seek the Father heart of God.
Meetings take place at St James Church, Southam between 4pm and 5pm on a Sunday afternoon. Everyone is welcome. Our next meeting will be on Sunday 20th November.
“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear them from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land”
2 Chronicles 7:14
