The church has eight bells making an attractive ring very popular with bell-ringers from far and wide. The bells were re-hung with new bearings in 1955. All of the five bells recorded in 1552 were re-cast during the 17th century and two of them again in 1863 when the sixth bell was added. Two new bells completed the ring in 1913 when a metal bell frame was provided. The tenor bell weighs 15cwt. 1qrt. 25lbs.
The ringers ring regularly for services and hold a regular Tuesday evening practice session. The ringers also ring for weddings and regularly host bands of visiting ringers from various parts of the country as well as ringing in other churches. Full peals and Quarter peals are a regularity.
To be able to learn the art of Church Bellringing is very rewarding and very good exercise for both the body and mind. If anyone is interested in learning to ring please contact us or come along on a Tuesday evening between 7.30pm and 9pm or speak to someone in the belfry on a Sunday. Ideally any candidate should be at least 14 years of age.
