When we baptise a child or an adult, they are welcomed into the Church family and the parents and Godparents make promises on behalf of the child to bring the child up in the Christian faith. Baptism, sometimes referred to as Christening, marks the beginning of a journey of faith, where in time we begin to explore what it means to love God, love others and follow Christ. We therefore encourage those seeking baptism to join us in our times of worship and to take part in Baptism Preparation, so that they can explore and deepen their understanding of the Christian faith and the promises that they will make.
If families would prefer not to make these promises then we can celebrate the precious gift of the child and thank God for them in a Thanksgiving Service. Please see above.
