When Christmas Hurts Saturday 21 December 3pm

When Christmas Hurts

Everything in our culture tells us that Christmas is a joyful season: friends, family, food, and gifts all encourage us to celebrate Christmas.  But for many, Christmas can be a painful reminder of life’s difficulties.

At St James’ church, we want to recognise that sometimes life is hard, particularly at Christmas, so, through December, we will have a dedicated tree to hang a bauble on to represent a loved one or situation that may ‘cloud’ the Christmas celebrations for us. Throughout the month and in the Christmas services we will be praying for what these baubles represent. If you can’t make it to church to hang a bauble then please contact the office (details below) and one of us will be happy to hang one on the tree for you.

This year, on Saturday 21st December 3pm at St James church, we will also gather to have tea and cake together followed by a short service where we will remember our loved ones and situations, light a candle for them and celebrate Christmas in a quieter more reflective way. All are welcome.

If you would like the name of a loved one read out at the service then please do let the office know by Thursday 19th December  (01926 812413 southamchurch@yahoo.com)  or add the name to the sheet on the welcome desk in church .

Revelation ch21 v4 “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death” or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.’

May you know His peace this Christmas,

LET’S HAVE BREAKFAST!

On Mothering Sunday, March 31st, at 10am, why not come and have breakfast with the family of St James’. Sadly we can’t do the whole bacon and eggs malarkey, but we do a great continental style breakfast with fresh coffee, tea or juice! It’s a great way to get to know others and enjoy a croissant or two. Afterwards, there’ll be a short family friendly service. No charge but donations towards costs gratefully received.

Don’t forget that the clocks go forward the night before!
